Fictional Animals

Sometimes I surprise myself with how much motivation I can muster when a game is involved. A few months back, I re-installed Pokemon Go on my phone to perk me up and give me a small distraction from work. Since then, I've pretty much spent one day each weekend walking about wherever we end up being, catching Pokemon.

Last month, we went to the zoo (loads of stops to spin!) and spent a whopping 4 hours in the cold, putzing around, and I didn't even seem to mind all the screaming kids around me. WHAT.

Since we were at the zoo, I took photos of the animals too, but mainly, I was there for the fictional animals.

But on to the outfit! Wearing an oldie Cheap Monday sweater (it does say "bad," yes), old Pumas, and an old H&M striped tank to give me some length.

Pink All Week

I'm definitely not the sort to dress up for any holiday, but for some reason, I've worn pinks all this week so far. This pink and white buffalo plaid jacket is an oldie from Anthropologie that I got sometime last year during the summer. I've kept it in storage for the colder temps, and I'm so glad I got it. It's a size L, and I can only imagine wearing it oversized vs cropped which is how they styled it on their model

I decided to keep pink the focal point for this look, so I went with all black (and some white!) for the rest of the outfit. This super warm dress is a new acquisition from Japan, Franco Sarto Chelsea boots are thrifted, and the panda purse is an old one from Nasty Gal.

Cowl

I love a good cowl neck. It's dramatic, it's warm, it makes me so happy. So imagine my glee when I spotted this Banana Republic cowl neck sweater on the thrift racks? I was ecstatic. I prayed to the gods that it would fit me while I puttered towards the fitting room and then fist pumped (on the inside, of course) after I confirmed it did.

As for the rest of the outfit, the leggings with faux leather trim are also thrifted (and a workhorse this winter!), boots are my trusted Sorels, and this coat is a really old one my mom got me as a present when I was still a grad student.

Used

50% of this outfit is thrifted and the rest have been in my closet for at least three years.

It took me five years, but I've finally found some thrift, secondhand, and consignment places that I actually like. I remember when I first moved into the area and found it really hard to buy used because no one around me really shopped like that. Now, there are more places apart from Goodwill that offer used clothing. Some of them are even curated! I think I've gotten better at also assessing what items to keep and which ones to pass on even though they're "a great deal." I just have to remind myself of how crazy unmanageable my closet was not too long ago and how I had piles instead of neat hanging rows of clothing.

BCBGeneration cardigan and Muk Luks booties are both thrift finds. GAP fleece-lined dress (essential for winter!) and tights are closet mainstays. Cat is our neighborhood kitten and sometimes gets captured while running from one house to another.

Past Photos

I wore this dress and jacket together in the attempt to make two negatives a positive. I don't mean to sound too dramatic, but I'll confess that I bought this dress on a whim because the color is just gorgeous. I don't often encounter emerald green, so when I do, I pretty much almost always cave in and buy it. This jacket is a sample from work, and though it's not particularly something I would purchase, it was a trendy piece that I thought I could integrate into my wardrobe.

Looking back at these photos, I should have worn the jacket unbelted to show off the keyhole neckline I created by using the skirt's belt as a bow around my neck. Ah well, no use crying over spilled milk or past photos.
